Welcome to The Wild Plant Laboratory
The Wild Plant Laboratory is run by Steph, who makes felted sheepskin rugs and plant dyed quilts at her Hampshire studio.
Steph enjoys foraging and growing dye plants to create local, land-based colour whilst exploring the science behind the process. Working with materials from their origin to final product is integral to the process.
Steph began exploring plant based colour and botanical printing through a course on Natural dyes and sustainable textiles. A need to be more connected to land than studio led Steph to complete an eye-opening traineeship on a regenerative farm and then spend time WWOOFING where a desire to work with the connection between ecological farming, nature, handcraft and science was kindled.
With a slightly nerdy predisposition to sheep and a hankering need to feel the wildness of places, Steph has travelled to the tiniest islands of Shetland in search of primitive breeds and traditional wool based crafts.
